Site Specific Performance and Video| Epping Forest | 2005 |
I have never truly encountered a mythical creature, though it hardly surprises me. Yet, there remains a disappointment in this absence. And still, in certain places, an ephemeral presence stirs, leaving a faint trace in my mind.
In this performance, the forest and its trees are treated as a unique site for exploration, inspiring distinct types of physical movement. Dressed in bright orange costumes, the dancers create a striking contrast against the lush green surroundings. Their movements, reminiscent of birds and insects while embodying an elf-like quality, evoke mysterious creatures that seem to inhabit the trees.
Encounters reflects Alva’s deep connection to Epping Forest, a place she visited regularly. The performance transforms the site into a realm of imagination, blurring the lines between reality and the mythical.
